    W ith its long doors, access to the two rear seats is actually not bad, although once there adults will find it a squash. And because of those long doors, carparks can be a challenge — expect to perform some acrobatics to exit your vehicle in tighter spaces. In the front the RC F feels low-slung and cosy, but storage space is merely adequate.

    Door bins aren't wide enough for even the narrowest of beverage containers, for example, and the myriad oddment boxes dotted around the cabin are either unhelpfully small or just awkwardly shaped. Y ou can cover a lot of miles in the RC F without complaint. It's one of the best cars of its type for long-distance motorway cruising: H owever, this is also a high-performance coupe, designed to be used on the race track as well as the road, and that has resulted in a relatively firm suspension setup.

    The result of this is a rumbly, agitated ride on British city streets. Kept below 3,rpm, the engine is notably quiet, while at gentle throttle openings the eight-speed automatic gearbox is very smooth. Only when you let the engine rev does the noise increase as the car is filled with a wonderfully deep-chested V8 growl, though in the UK you'll only be able to hear it for a brief moment before you reach the speed limit.

    It's recognisable as a Japanese car it arguably lacks the finesse of a similarly-priced German sports saloon but its attractive and looks well constructed. However, there are a few flaws.

    The main 7-inch screen looks smart and is conveniently mounted high on the dash, but the touchpad used to control it is both tricky to master and not helped by the fact that the menus themselves are at times convoluted. T here are also a lot of buttons to take in, most of which merely duplicate functions that can also be carried out via the touchpad.

    And the instrument binnacle has a curious combination of up-to-date dynamic displays and somewhat anachronistic green-backlit tell-tales. W hile you might imagine a 5. T he handling feels assured, with good turn in and plenty of grip, but it also lacks the sense of driver involvement that marks out the best sports cars, and the feeling of weight never really goes away.
