  • Ducati updated its Hypermotard for the model year and carried that forward to Fairly fresh off a revamp in '13, the new Hypermotard.

The Ducati Hypermotard is a supermotard Ducati motorcycle designed by Pierre Terblanche . The Hypermotard SP has a slightly lesser weight due to the use of carbon fibre engine and body components, and has higher suspension travel.

With its higher Ground Clearance, higher-spec suspension, higher bars and less weight, the EVO SP is truly a machine built for the edgiest of street riding.

    Ducati Hypermotard SP

Ducati describe the new Hypermotard as an evolution of the radical original bike and the SP is race ready version for the track. Both versions share the same single spark V-Twin engine which is 5kg lighter than the previous model with 5 more BHP. The EVO is a noticeable improvement on the old bike, but the SP is a huge step forward and makes the Hypermotard even more extreme and track focused than the original, which was too extreme for some to start with.

Considering the basic Evo is designed for the road it works well on track. At extreme levels ground clearance can be limiting and the standard Pirelli tyres will start to move around, however still giving excellent feedback. If you want a more track focused bike opt for the SP. Much greater ground clearance, firmer suspension with greater travel and sportier rubber, both bikes have eye popping brakes.

Ducati changed back to a single spark, V-twin, air-cooled engine as the previous model was twin spark. The cylinder head is completely new, compression has been increased, pistons have a re-designed crown. Cams are new, ports re-designed and the crankshaft assembly is very like with a lighter flywheel. There is no longer any reason to question Ducati reliability, the old stories of poor reliability, poor electrics and horror stories of short service intervals are no longer justified. The level of finish is very high on both models, with quality names such as Brembo and Ohlins.

The switchgear and clocks are stolen from the Streefighter with gives the bike a race finish. This is the only real negative of the Evo model is the price. Yes, you are buying a track ready bike with the SP, and its mouth watering, stunning and you have the Ducati brand but for the same price you could buy a cc sports bike, much more practical and quicker on track.

But for the price its relatively basic, no ABS or traction control. Read what they have to say and what they like and dislike about the bike below. To show how good it is I have a Desmosedici parked in my garage with 6, miles on the clock and my Hyper now 22, plus miles But IF you can refrain from caning the beast - hard I appreciate - you can get around miles between fill ups Best I done before fuel reserve light came on and I am too chicken to want to push it so filled up at miles with 0.

But perfectly OK for cruising around or looning around. Not a bloody Supermoto any more. But not for "proper" hooligans! I spend all day doin wheelies and stoppies When I die please bury my Hyper S with me so I can raise hell - in hell.
